Synopsis:
When he was two, Will’s mother died. Three years later, his father remarried and his new wife gave birth to Winton. She disappeared a month later. At fifteen, Will and Winton’s father abandoned them. Twenty years have passed.
Will has married April. They own a successful architectural firm in Sonoma, California, where April’s family operates Agate Hill Vineyards that produces the finest Pinot, Zinfandel and Barbera grapes.
It is a critical time for Will and April. Will’s principle client, Henry Ferguson, is being particularly difficult as they finalize his Napa Valley shopping center. McKenna Distillers has approached April’s mother, Grace, to expand the vineyard and wants Will to design a winery to complement their facility in the Anderson Valley. It is the deal of a lifetime and couldn’t have come at a worse time because Will and April have just lost their five-year-old son, Mason.
Most of his life, Winton has been a drifter, seeking that one big score that will set him up for life. He gave little thought to his half-brother and was not particularly jealous of his success until he met Lorna.
Prostitute, heroine addict, drug dealer and grifter, at only twenty-six years old, Lorna lives with her lesbian girlfriend, Tawni, is the sex partner of Domingo who runs drugs from across the border, and with him, is planning to score three-quarters of a million dollars of cocaine through the Colombian drug lord, Joel Dubét. She has told Dubét she has twenty-five thousand dollars, matching funds to buy the product. Now, she must find a way for Winton to get the money from Will or risk losing her life.
Two brothers alienated and estranged: their fate lies in the hands of Lorna and her desperate quest.
